Objectives of the Course

To teach candidates of veterinarian the eye diseases of all animal species in detail.

Course Content

to recognize eye diseases, to explain and apply treatment, in case of emergency, the necessary pre-treatment includes the necessary information to guide the specialist.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
The aim of the course content and a short presentation. Information about the source. Anatomy and physiology of the eye.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Vision examination methods, systematic examination of the eye, Schirmer test, tonometry.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Etiology, diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases of the eye lids, blepharospazm, lagophtalmus, pytosis and coloboma.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Eye lid abnormalities, atresia palpebrarum, tarsitis-blepharitis, entropion, ectropion.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Lacrimal system pathology and dacryocystitis.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Conjunctival diseases, conjunctival injury and inflammation. Conjunctivitis catharalis, conjunctivitis purulenta, conjunctivitis sicca, conjunctivitis parenchimatosa.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Corneal diseases, cornea shallow, deep and perforating wounds, descematocel, cornea inflammation, keratitis. Corneal ulcers, ophtalmia epizotica, inflammatory and non-inflammatory corneal ectasis.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Iris and choroidea diseases, iris inflammation, uveitis, ethiology in dogs and cats, Midterm exam
Week 9 - Theoretical
Horse periodic eye inflammation, hypopion, hyphema.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Diseases of the corpus vitreum, pathological reactions releated to the corpus vitreum, abnormalities of the corpus vitreum, hemorrhage of the corpus vitreum.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Retinal diseases, retinal degenerations, retinitis, retinal detachments, retinal haemorrhages, amorosis and causes.
Week 12 - Theoretical
Diseases of the lens, lens subluxation and luxation to anterior or posterior chamber, cataract types and treatment options.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Glaucoma in dogs and cats, predisposed breeds. Ethyopathogenesis, examination methods in the diagnosis of glaucoma, medical and operative treatment options.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Eye, eyelid, entropion, ectropion operations, operations about palpebra tertia, surgical procedures on corneal wounds, cataract and eye tumors operations.
