Objectives of the Course

Giving basic informations about the physical and chemical analysis evaluating feed value.

Course Content

The concept of nutrients in terms of feed and animal nutrition, the importance of nutrient analysis in feeds, differences in nutrient digestibility of single and multi-stomach animals, meadow and pasture, rough and intensive feeds, feed hygiene and technology.

Learning Outcomes
1.Have sufficient knowledge about farm management
2.Having information about the feedstuffs which should used in ration formulated to be most economic and meet farm animals requirements
3.General rearing knowledge on farm animals and able to teach to the farmers
4.They obtain information about social, sexual and in growing period behaviours of farm animals
5.Learn how to generate new genetic combinations and how to use breeding methods for developing the present genetic structure
6.To have knowledge of organization, management and legislation related to veterinary medicine.
7.To use professional abilities for the contribution of developing of Veterinary knowledge for increasing the quality of animal care and public health.
8.To evaluate the physical, welfare, and nutritional condition of an animal or an animal group and to give some advice to the animal owner or raiser on this context.
9.To collect samples and to transfer and/or store them in proper conditions, to use proper analysis methods, and to interpret these results.
10.To give some advice to the breeders and to apply preventive measurements related to animal health and welfare, and public health standards that conforming to animal species

Week 1 - Practice
Biosecurity information for the course. Digestibility differences of nutrients in mono-polygastric animal species. Definition and classification of feed. Terms of forage, concentrate and factory feed
Week 2 - Practice
Nutritional requirements in animal species, energy requirement, maintenance requirement: basal metabolism, living activity, yield requirement: lactation, pregnancy, growth and breeding, laying, competition, protein requirement: value of feed proteins, maintenance requirement, vitamin requirement, mineral requirement, water requirement
Week 3 - Practice
Nutrition of dairy cows and beef cattles, nutritional diseases
Week 4 - Practice
General information about cattle rearing. General status of cattle production in Turkey and World. Classification of cattle breeds. Turkish native cattle breed

Visiting dairy farm

Visiting beef cattle farm

General nutritional principles of poultry

Hygiene practices in poultry houses, (entrance and exit planning, quarantine, physical and chemical barriers for fight of rodent-fly-birds medication, vaccination, disinfection, etc.)
