Objectives of the Course

To learn a scientific basis for understanding carbon compounds, to learn the methods and mechanisms of obtaining functional groups and their chemical behaviour.

Course Content

IUPAC Nomenclature and Functional groups, Isomers: classification and naming, Alkanes, Alkyl halides, Alkenes, Alkynes, Aromatic compounds, Alcohols, Ethers and Phenols, Aldehydes and ketones, Carboxylic acids and their derivatives, Amines, Natural biological molecules: Carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, vitamins.

1.To be explain basic organic concepts and theories.
2.To be named an organic compound (according to the IUPAC nomenclature system)
3.To be recognize functional groups and their properties.
4.To be determine the acidity-baseness, nucleophilic and electrophilic properties of the compound in its structure and decides which one can be dominant.
5.To be know the basic classes of organic compounds and comments on their properties.
6.To be write the basic organic reactions.
7.To be recognize the organic compounds used in daily life.
