Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce the current state of the art in food processing by-products with respect to their generation, methods of disposal, and problems faced in terms of waste and regulation.

Introduction, principles of waste recycling, by-products from plant-based food processing industries, by-products from animal products-based food processing industries, environmental concerns and sustainable development

1.By the end of this course, students are expected to; Learn food processing by-products and the spectra of possible products that could be derived from them.
2.Analyze process engineering economics that could serve as models for developing valorization strategies.
3.Learn biochemical and microbial characteristics of food processing by-products and wastes.
4.Understand the possible biotechnologies that could be used for valorization.
5.Explore legal and environmental concerns, research gaps, and future trends in the field.
