Objectives of the Course

To teach basic principles and knowledge of melting, casting and welding methods and to give practices in laboratory for better understanding the knowledge obtained in theoretical course.

Course Content

Casting, casting sands and pattern making. Moulding and casting processes. Melting furnaces. Casting of metals and alloys (cast iron, steel and nonferrous metals). Welding processes. Flame and electrical arc cutting. Welding electrodes. Shielded-arc welding, weld defects. Soldering. Casting and welding practices in laboratory.

1. Learn the casting methods for production of parts and components
2.Learn the melting techniques in the furnaces
3.Learn the casting of cast iron, steel and nonferrous metals which are widely used in engineering applications
4.Gain knowledge on the techniques used to avoid or minimize the casting defects
5.Learn the common welding processes
6.Gain knowledge and information on the welding devices and electrodes, and the methods used to prevent the welding defects
7.Learn and evaluate the metallurgical aspects of welding
8.Gain knowledge about the main principles of brazing
