Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to provide the students with the properties of concrete ingredients (cement, aggregate, water, mineral and chemical admixture) and the influence of these properties on the behavior of fresh and hardened concrete.

Course Content

Concrete definition, role and importance today, concrete forms, cements, standards, specifications and test procedures related with cement, hydration of Portland cement, characteristics of hydration products, chemical and mineral admixtures for concrete, mixing water, structure of water, quality of water, aggregates for concrete, aggregate properties required for mix design, midterm examination, concrete mix design, ready mixed and prefabricated concrete production, preparation transportation, compaction of concrete, finishing of concrete, curing of concrete under hot and cold weather, testing of fresh and hardened concrete, quality control an concrete.
