Objectives of the Course

The goal of this course is for the student to understand the processes in the oceans and their coasts, to establish the relationship between these processes and the Earth's rotation around the Sun, to teach the effect of water's molecular structure on macro-scale events, to comprehend the transport of solid matter along the coast, and to teach the interaction of these processes with engineering structures. Another goal of the course is to teach students the importance of maintaining a balance between environmental conservation and civilizational growth in their engineering careers after graduation.

Course Content

Definition of oceanography, including information about the world's oceans and seas, the properties of sea water, its molecular structure, and its composition, solid matter movements in seas and coasts, water circulation in oceans and seas, the relationship between weather events and sea currents, the formation of waves and their transformation as they approach the shore, beach and shoreline formation processes, marine life, and energy transfer.
