Objectives of the Course

The primary objective of this course is to enable students to comprehensively understand the Middle Ages in terms of its chronological, social, political, cultural, and economic aspects. The Medieval History course aims to provide fundamental knowledge and analytical thinking skills that will help students understand the transition from Antiquity to the Modern Age.

Course Content

This course covers the political, social, economic, and cultural developments in Europe, Byzantium, and the Islamic world from the beginning to the end of the Middle Ages. Beginning with the legacy of Antiquity and the fall of the Western Roman Empire, it examines the new political structures that emerged throughout the Middle Ages, the feudal system, the rise of the Church, urbanization, and the development of trade.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the fundamental concepts, chronological boundaries, and significant events of the Middle Ages.
2.It evaluates the political, social, and cultural developments in Europe, Byzantium, and the Islamic world in a comparative manner.
3.It interprets the feudal system, the influence of the church, and intellectual and artistic developments in the Middle Ages.
4.It analyzes historical events through cause-and-effect relationships and interprets them with a critical perspective.
5.Effectively uses medieval knowledge in teaching and academic work.
