Objectives of the Course

To train educators who are conscious about natural and environmental pollution and climate change especially in our world and in Turkey who are pregnant with many human-induced disasters.

Course Content

Concepts of disaster and risk; disaster risk and mitigation; disaster training and its importance; preparation for disasters, intervention to disasters, disaster recovery; natural and human disasters; effects of disasters on sustainable development; climate change and meteorological disasters; studies in Turkey and in the world; earthquake regulations; effectiveness in disaster management; disaster management cycle; disaster terminology; coordination in disaster management; emergency and Disaster Coordination Centers;

Learning Outcomes
1.Define the concepts and historical development related to disaster management.
2.Recognizes disasters from natural environmental problems and comprehends their importance.
3.Define the concepts of Hazard, Risk, Disaster by evaluating the available geographical information. Have knowledge about the stages before, during and after the disaster.
4.Knows the distinction between natural and human induced disasters, climate change and meteorological disasters and comments on the effects of disasters.
5.Gains knowledge about crisis management in disasters and emergencies. Prepares a disaster plan for family, school, etc. in where he/she lives.
