Objectives of the Course

To have to students learn about Turkish art and its development in the second half of the 20th century

Course Content

Turkish art in the republic period will be viewed while its reletionship with the Western Art, infiluence and effects are to be researched. Particularly the venues of art the beginnings of 1990s in the World will be compratively researched.

1.Turkish art and the Turkish artists to the present in accordance with the combined arts’ vision will be evaluated.
2.Student will be able to meet the Turkish artists who are mostly living and practising their art and get influenced from their experience.
3.Student will recognize the Turkish artists’ contributition within their working environment.
4. Know and interpret the currentity of contemporary Turkish art
5. To recognize the periods, trends, artists, subject, style, material and technical characteristics of an art work

Week 3 - Theoretical
Multiple Party Period (1950–60) life, social search and art a- The acceptance of abstract art b- Socialistic art in relation tothe abstract art

Prevention of democracy, 1960-70, National-International Art Dilemma: a- Expansion of abstract expressionism b- Figurative approaches, socialist art view

The polorisation in the art world, 1970–80 a- Artist-Politics relationship, the different dimensions in the concept of realism

b- Conceptual art Beginnings c- New Trends Exhibition: A new exhibition organised by a state institution after the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibitions

Studio work: To evaluate the State Museums Collections with the specialists of the Museums, the state’s concept of collection
