Objectives of the Course

To gain the knowledge of folk music to be used in music education.

Course Content

To teach and introduce the makams, procedures, instruments and their local characteristics used in THM. Solfege and lyrics of the folk songs in various procedures and makams and repertoire studies in accordance with school music.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
1 Definition and formation of music. To teach the terms of music one by one and to make a general definition of Turkish Folk Music.
Week 2 - Theoretical
2 Formation of Turkish Folk Music and definitions made by various musicologists.
Week 3 - Theoretical
3 Melodies and sound system in Turkish Folk Music. Bilateral intervals and Maya quad-quintet sound range in Turkish Folk Music.
Week 4 - Theoretical
4 Special sound sequences at Turkish Folk Music. Teaching by made practise of "singing- repetition". Extensive sequences and Huseyni sound sequence.
Week 5 - Theoretical
5 Teaching special sound sequence (Garip,Kerem and İbrahimi) by listening.
Week 6 - Theoretical
6 Teaching special sequences called Lavik by listening.
Week 7 - Theoretical

8 Listening and vocal work of sample works. (Mid-Term Exam)
