Objectives of the Course

Earth Science course aims to introduce the characteristics of the theoretical competence within the scope of definitions, concepts and issues, relational systems that interact with these issues. In this course the student will learn the earth’s geomorphology, hydrography, atmosphere, biosphere and learn about the basic features, the dynamic factors of the environment and have knowledge about the processes and policies.

Course Content

The definition and scope of geology. General information about the Earth: its the shape and size, ground movements, its geospheres, heat, gravity and isostasy. Substances that make up the Earth: Minerals and deposits. The important minerals in the rock: Rocks, description and general information, igneous rocks, metamorphism and metamorphic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and soil degradation, decomposition of rocks, soil conditions and types. Tectonic movements: Orogenic, epirogenic movements, faults, volcanism and earthquakes. Stratigraphy: general principles, concepts, interpretation of geological periods.
