To teach the techniques, colors, typology and chronology of Classical Period ceramic art. When the ceramic art of the Classical Period is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is the Red Figure Technique. It is aimed to examine in detail the decorative features of the painters who applied the new technique that came to the fore with the decline in the popularity of the Black Figure Technique. It is also aimed to provide information about the White Ground Technique and the Kerch Style, which were in use during the Classical Period.
Athens managed to be an important center for ceramic production during the Classical Period. The Red Figure Technique, which was introduced in the Kerameikos Quarter during the Late Archaic Period, led to a decrease in interest in the Black Figure Technique. Andokides is thought to be the first painter to apply the Red Figure Technique. This technique was popularly used throughout the Classical Period. Important ceramic painters of the Classical Period created important works in the Red Figure Technique with the influence of other art branches. Within the scope of the Classical Ceramics course, important potters and masters known to have worked between the end of the 6th century BC and 330 BC will be discussed chronologically. In addition, the potters and masters who practiced the White Ground Technique and Kerch Style, which were in use during this period, will also be discussed.
