Objectives of the Course

Learning how to collect plants from nature using appropriate methods, dry them and store them for certain purposes.

Course Content

It includes teaching the methods and practices related to collecting plants, drying and preserving them for scientific research and educational purposes by following appropriate procedures.

What is a herbarium?
Week 2 - Theoretical
Well-known herbaria in the world and the status of existing herbaria in Turkey
Week 3 - Theoretical
Things to consider during field work and the necessary tools to be used in field works
Week 4 - Theoretical
Field records and notes in the field study (locality information, characteristics of plants etc.)
Week 5 - Theoretical
Points to be considered during field work and plant collection
Week 6 - Theoretical
Pressing of plants collected from the field and points to be taken into consideration during pressing
Week 7 - Theoretical
Drying plants using appropriate methods
Week 8 - Theoretical
Transferring plants to herbarium cardboards, and preparation of herbarium labels
