Objectives of the Course

the main aim is to teach, evaluate and discuss the main contributions of founder sociologists who played crucial role in the formation of sociological theory; to introduce and discuss their theories

Course Content

the general context of the course; the main founders of sociology; social theories of Marx, Durkheim, Weber and Simmel; General comparison of the four main founders.

1.to grasp Karl Marx’s method of dialectic, objectification, his view on labour and human being in terms of his conceptions of power, needs, consciousness and action
2.to able to evaluate Karl Marx's conceptions of alienation, the analysis of capitalist society and social classes, and to grasp his notions of class consciousness, classless society and ideology
3.to grasp the main contributions of Emile Durkheim to sociology, his perceptions of social facts and method; to learn his ideas about the suicide and religion
4.to able to understand and evaluate Max Weber's action sociology, modern society and rationalization understanding
5.to able to evaluate George Simmel’s ideas about notions of interactionism, forms and Money
