Objectives of the Course

Analyzing processes of and debates on urbanization and urbanism.

Course Content

Starting in the 1950s, Turkey has undergone through a rapid process of industrialization and development period. This process has created particular forms and experiences of urbanization and urbanism. This course will examine urbanization and urbanism dynamics Turkey has experienced during different periods form a historical perspectives and in the light of theoretical debates.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to compare urbanization from different sociological perspectives.
2.To be able to comprehend urbanization with multiple perspectives.
3.To be able to adapt and analyze urban problems from a particular perspective
4.To be able to develop a complicated understanding about neoliberal urbanization problems.
5.To be able to recognize and study problems such as urban segregation, urban poverty and exclusion in the field.
