Objectives of the Course

To give information about the literary understanding of the poets / writers of the Tanzimat Period and to make close readings about the poetry, novel, story and theater genres of the period. To teach to analyze literary accumulation (poetry, novels, stories, novels) in terms of form, content and discourse around the period's historical social and political structure.

Course Content

To give information about the literary debates of the period and to explain how the process of building a new man-new society was tried to be shaped around the literature of the period by explaining it in the axis of types, concepts and the activities of the process of interaction with the West.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to explain the general spesifications of Turkish Literature in the period of Tanzimat.”
2.To learn about Recaizade Mahmut Ekrem's literary understanding and analyze his poems and novel.
3.To learn about Muallim Naci's literary understanding and analyze his poems.
4.To have information about Samipaşazade's literary personality and to examine the novel Sergüzeşt in the context of Ottoman modernization.
5.To have information about Ahmet Mithat Efendi's literary understanding and to analyze her novel/s in the context of Ottoman modernization.
6.To have information about Fatma Aliye Hanım's literary personality and to examine her novel/s in the context of Ottoman modernization.
7.To know the poetry and novel tradition of the Tanzimat period closely, to know the conceptual contents of literary discussions.
8.To be able to evaluate the works of the period in terms of discourse, form, content and the historical conditions of the period.
