Objectives of the Course

To give information about the literary understanding of the poets / writers of the Tanzimat Period and to make close readings about the poetry, novel and story. To teach to analyze literary accumulation in terms of form, content and discourse around the period's historical social and political structure.

Course Content

To explain how the process of building a new human-new society was tried to be shaped around the literature of the period by explaining it in the axis of types, concepts and the activities of the process of interaction with the West. To teach to analyze the poems and novels of the period in terms of form, content and discourse.

Learning Outcomes
1.To know the tendencies in Tanzimat Period poems in terms of form and content.
2.To know the literary understanding of the second generation poets and writers of the Tanzimat period.
3.to be able to interpret about the period of the entry and improvement of the novel and story which are western types
4.To have knowledge about Menemenlizade Mehmet Tahir, Nabizade Nazım, Abdülhak Hamit Tarhan's literary understanding and to analyze their poems in terms of form, content and discourse.
5.To evaluate Tanzimat period poems in the context of historical course, social conditions of the period and subject, concept, content, discourse.
6.To analyze the novels of Nabizade Nazım and Mizancı Murat in the context of Ottoman modernization.
