Objectives of the Course

Teaching how and in what conditions the Ottoman Empire was founded, importance of the geography in which this political structure was situated, which factors affected the transition from principality to state, Ottoman expansion policy, Ottoman rulers of the early period and their political activities.

Course Content

Founding philosophy and historical development of the Ottoman Empire will be discussed. Rulers of the early period and their activities with regard to political events are basic topics.

1.to be able to grasp Ottoman Principality and its geography, neigbours, political and socio-economical ties between them.
2.to be able to explain importance of penetration to Rumelia for the Ottomans.
3.to be able to recognise how the initial Ottoman conquests were conducted.
4.to be able to comprehend Ottoman ways of qonquest.
5.to be able to remember important political events, wars and territory gains.
6.to be able to tell personal and political activities of rulers of the period.
7.to be able to evaluate changes that the state experinced in that period.
8.to be able to inform about the foundation institutions of the Ottoman State.
9.to be able to comprehend how international developments affected the Ottoman State.
10.to be able to define Ottoman geography in the period of expansion.
11.to be able to classify Ottoman land and naval forces in the Classical Period.
12.to be able to explain Ottoman individual and daily life in the Classical Period.
