Objectives of the Course

In this course, the examples of Byzantine art of monumental painting, particularly in Anatolia , Istanbul samples of construction over the technical, stylistic and iconographic analysis are intended initially. In addition, the early and middle Byzantine period, examples of Byzantine manuscripts are placed on examining the character of the period.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to define the Byzantine painting art, and production techniques ,discuss the similarities and differences according to different periods.
2.To be able to evaluate the image examples of Byzantine periods in terms of iconographic and stylistic features.
3.To be able to evaluate the Byzantine painting in terms of political, social, religious, economic, and artistic dimensions of the period.
4.To be able to discuss political, social, religious, economic and artistic condition of the period by taking into account the topics covered in the Byzantine Painting Art
5.Understand the Importance of Iconography and Iconon in Byzantine Art.

Last Byzantine Period, depicted in the art of giving information about the status of economic and political effects are discussed.

Last Byzantine period painting detail, analysis and insight-Istanbul Kariye (Khóra Monastery Church) (with visual materials)
Week 3 - Theoretical
Istanbul Kariye (Khóra monastery church) Mosque. Differences iconographic and stylistic period features, giving the setting and interpretation (with visual materials)
Week 4 - Theoretical
Istanbul ,Fethiye Mosque (Pammakaristos church) image review and discussion painting program (with visual materials)
Week 5 - Theoretical
Analyze and interpret samples of Trabzon Hagia Sophia Church (with visual materials)
