Objectives of the Course

This course aims to introduce students to a range of works derived from the 19th Century Romantic Literature, to distinguish romantic literature from the other works in terms of emotional, political and artistic value, to evaluate the contents of the works studied. This module will mainly focus on the works by William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Blake, John Keats, Lord Byron and Mary Shelley.

Course Content

In this course, students learn the history and literature of the 19th century and analyze the works of the writers and poets of the period.

Learning Outcomes
1.To demonstrate a knowledge of the romantic poetry of the 19th Century;
2.To demonstrate an awareness of social and historical factors which conditioned and/or gave rise to the emergence of a movement called romanticism, and its content and outlook on man and life;
3.To demonstrate an awareness to distinguish what is romantic poetry and its basic assets like love of nature, mysticism and pantheism, nobility of ordinary man, etc.
4.To identify and analyze the implicit and explicit meanings of a literary text
5.To approach a text critically and make logical deductions based on textual evidences
