Objectives of the Course

This course aims to introduce students to a range of works produced in the Victorian Period. This module will mainly focus on the works by Robert Browning, L. Alfred Tennyson, Christina Rosetti, Emily Bronte and some others.

Course Content

In this course, students learn the history and literature of the 19th century and analyze the works of the writers and poets of the period.

1.To have an idea about 19th-century Victorian Literature
2.To have an idea about the social and historical conditions that shaped Victorian Literture
3.To have an idea about 19th century poetry and its assets like love of nature, mysticism and pantheism, nobility of ordinary man, etc.
4.To approach a text critically and make logical deductions based on textual evidences
5.To learn the distinctive qualities of the popular genres of the period
