Objectives of the Course

THIS COURSE AIMS: 1. to introduce students to a range of works derived from the late 18th century and 19th Century Romantic Poetry; 2. to distinguish the romantic poetry from the other poetic works in terms of emotional, political and artistic value; 3. to evaluate the contents and to detect the characteristics of the works studied.

Course Content

By examining the works derived from late 18th century and 19th century pre-Romantic And Romantic poets, Thomas Gray, Oliver Goldsmith, William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord Byron ve Percy Bysshe Shelley, students are expected to distinguish the Romantic aspects of the poems and appreciate their emotional, political and artistic value.

Learning Outcomes
1.Demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of pre-Romantic and Romantic periods
2.demonstrate an awareness of political factors which conditioned and/or gave rise to the emergence of a movement called Romanticism
3.Demonstrate an awareness of Romantic content and outlook on man, life and nature
4.Demonstrate an awareness to distinguish what is Romantic Poetry and its basic assets like love of nature, mysticism and pantheism, nobility of ordinary man, etc.
5.Demonstrate the place and characteristics of Romantic Poetry among other poetic forms
