Objectives of the Course

This course aims to develop student competencies in theoretical and applied monetary economics.

Course Content

In this course, definitions of money, functions of money, monetary systems, international monetary system and the problems faced by this system, money demand, money supply, equilibrium in the money market and dematerialized money creation will be discussed in depth. In addition, Classical, Keynesian, Neo-Keynesian and Monetarist theories will be analyzed comprehensively.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains what money is, its basic concepts, and its role in the economy.
2.Analyzes the functioning of foreign exchange and currency markets, as well as exchange rate systems and international capital flows.
3.Examines the historical development and operation of the Bretton Woods system and evaluates its economic effects.
4.Describes how money supply and demand are formed and demonstrates how balance is achieved in the money market.
5.Compares money and interest theories according to Classical, Keynesian, Neo-Classical, and Neo-Keynesian approaches.
6.Analyzes the structure of the banking system and interprets the balance sheets of commercial banks.
7.Explains the basic principles of central banking and identifies the structure and functions of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey.
