Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the fundamental concepts, theoretical approaches, and contemporary debates in the field of public finance through selected academic readings. It also aims to develop students’ abilities to read, understand, analyze, and discuss academic texts. By engaging with foundational literature at an early stage, students are expected to build critical thinking skills and gain familiarity with scholarly discourse in public finance.

Course Content

This course provides an introduction to the core literature of public finance by engaging students with selected academic texts that explore foundational theories, key concepts, and critical issues in the field. Topics covered include public goods, taxation, government expenditures, fiscal justice, and the evolving role of the state in the economy. Through structured reading sessions and guided discussions, the course aims to enhance students’ comprehension of academic writing, analytical thinking, and their ability to critically interpret scholarly arguments. The course serves as a preparatory ground for more advanced courses in public finance.
