Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to help students develop their ability and qualifications to understand and question macroeconomic issues. By using macroeconomic models (Simple Keynesian Models, IS-LM Model and AD-AS Models), it is aimed to explain how to use monetary and fiscal policies in the face of macroeconomic problems and how the effectiveness of these policies changes in closed and open economies.

Course Content

In the scope of this course, the birth and development of macroeconomics, macroeconomic units and their relations, basic macroeconomic concepts and measurement, consumption, saving, investment, money supply and money demand functions of macroeconomic models and macroeconomic policies will be examined. After explaining macroeconomic models in general, Keynesian models will be explained mainly. Simple Keynesian Models, IS-LM Model and AD-AS Models will be analysed separately as closed and open models.

Learning Outcomes
1.Students will be able to evaluate the historical processes that led to the emergence of macroeconomics and the development of macroeconomic approaches.
2.Students will be able to explain macroeconomic units and the relationships between them.
3.Students will be able to construct and draw consumption, saving and investment functions which are the microeconomic foundations of macroeconomics and explain the relationships between them.
4.Students will be able to explain the objectives and instruments of monetary and fiscal policy.
5.Students will be able to calculate the equilibrium level of national income in which expenditure-income equality in money and goods markets is achieved.
