Objectives of the Course

To analyze the basic tenets of Ottoman economic thought, social structure and to teach students how the Ottoman state affected social and economic processes.

Course Content

The Social, Economic and Institutional Structures of the Ottoman Empire will be examined and discussed by dividing the periods according to the important turning points.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to understand the sources of Ottoman social and economic history
2.To be able to understand the reasons and periods of basic change in Ottoman economic and social history
3. To be able to compare different views about Ottoman social structure
4.To be able to evaluate the resources of Ottoman idea of state and the reasons behind the change of Ottoman classical era
5.To detect and identify social and political issues from an interdisciplinary perspective and pinpoint their causes within such a framework in addition to skills that would allow them to gather data on these issues, as well as analze and interpret them.
