Objectives of the Course

To address the relationships between social structures and political life from a sociological perspective. To gain a general perspective on the main study areas of Political Sociology, To evaluate the factors that affect political life, To be aware of the background of the changes that occur in political life today, To evaluate the problems in today's society within the framework of the basic concepts and approaches in political sociology, To evaluate the socio-cultural and structural changes in the world and in Türkiye within the framework of these concepts, To examine the relationship and interaction between the elements of the socio-cultural structure (social and cultural) and the elements of the social structure (basic institutions), To analyze the state-society relationship within the framework of historical/cultural tradition and democratic ideals and ideas, To examine the cultural origins and political and social reasons of political movements within a holistic understanding and a relationship of mutual dependency.

Course Content

The birth of political science and political sociology and the approaches of thinkers who have come to the present day will be discussed. It addresses the problems of the modern state from a historical and chronological perspective in terms of political sociology. The main topics to be covered in the course are; transition to the modern state, the state through the eyes of historical sociology, the rule of law (historical development, authority and legitimacy), political classes (elites and elitism, parties), relativism-universalism, changing political understanding within the framework of modernity and postmodernism, multicultural citizenship, democratic participation, political culture, political change, political development, political integration, political movements, political structure, politics and religion.
