Objectives of the Course

This elective course aims to examine issues of political parties and elections. At parties, the emergence and development of political parties, functions, organizational structures, party systems, and the problem of financing issues to be processed.

Course Content

The political parties in Turkey will be evaluated. Elections for democracy on the importance of the elections, electoral systems and elections in Turkey will be examined. The main objective of the course in detail in the last year students discuss the issues of the political parties and elections, and homework to reinforce it.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Introduction to the lesson
Week 2 - Theoretical
Party concept, origin, pressure groups, the differences with the parties, parties corresponds to the traditional community structure and function of political parties in modern society, in terms of the types of organization in comparison.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Liberalism and Political Parties. The recognition of the legal status of the parties, and the Constitutional law of the parties' entry. The evolution of Rousseau's theory of popular sovereignty and after.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Types of political parties
Week 5 - Theoretical
Sociological impacts to the party system
Week 6 - Theoretical
Party discipline. Parliamentary groups, co-chaired applications, loosely and tightly disciplined parties.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Electoral systems. Absolute majority, proportional representation systems, single-turn, two-round elections, the dam applications, a narrow selection of similar practices of the region and party systems.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Political participation and party membership. Voters, supporters, activists, individual and corporate membership in the party. Different types of parties and party membership countries functioning of the system.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Intra-party democracy. Leader-based parties, democratic centralism, party congresses, organization-central relations. Bronze law of oligarchy.

Party systems, One-party, two-party and multi-party systems
Week 12 - Theoretical
Turkish Political Parties in Multi-Party Period. The radical right, center, right, center, left and radical left-wing political parties, structures, operations.

Party system in Turkey: the Republican People's Party of Union and Progress.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Problems in the system of political parties and political parties in Turkey.
