Objectives of the Course

The aim of the Public Economics course is to help students understand the role and impact of the public sector within the economic system. This course covers the functions of government in economic activities, the effects of public spending and taxation on the economy, the production and distribution of public goods and services, and the economic analysis of public policies. It aims to develop students' abilities to analyze and critically assess public economics theories and practices.

Course Content

The Public Economics course includes a comprehensive range of topics aimed at providing students with a deep understanding of the field of public economics. The course begins with the basic concepts of public economics and the economic functions of the state. It then covers the characteristics of public goods and services, externalities, and the financing of public services. The theory of taxation and the economic effects of public expenditures are examined in detail. The course also includes topics on the public budget, budget balance, and the management of public debt. Economic analyses of public policies, focusing on efficiency and productivity, are discussed, along with income distribution and social justice issues. The economic role of local governments and current debates in public economics are also key components of the course content.
