The objective of this course is to examine the historical development of management theories by introducing classical, neo-classical, modern, and contemporary management approaches within a theoretical framework; and to enable students to critically evaluate management thought in the context of labour processes, organisational structures, and workplace relations. The course will also explore how key managerial functions—such as decision-making, leadership, motivation, and organisational behaviour—affect employer-employee relations, with a particular focus on the dynamics of management specific to the field of industrial relations.
Within the historical development of management theories, classical, neo-classical, modern, and contemporary approaches are examined; key concepts such as management processes, leadership, motivation, and organisational behaviour are analysed. The course focuses on the impact of management approaches on working life and workplace relations.
