Core Subject Course. This course aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts, types, and key actors of the labor market while equipping them with the competence to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze developments in labor markets. The course covers in depth the structure and functioning of labor markets, the relationship between unemployment and inflation, wage formation processes, and the variables influencing wages. It aims to enable students to understand the core theoretical approaches of labor economics, analyze current issues such as inequality, discrimination, and gender in the labor market, develop a sense of social responsibility grounded in sustainable development, social justice, and ethical values, and acquire the skills needed to adapt to labor market dynamics shaped by digitalization and technological change.
The Labor Economics I course offers an in-depth theoretical and practical examination of how labor markets function, aiming to equip students with the ability to analyze the determinants of labor supply and demand, understand equilibrium processes in the labor market, and assess the social and economic impacts of labor market policies. The course covers key topics such as fundamental labor market concepts, the ability to develop economic models, efficient wage theories, the economic analysis of labor mobility, discrimination in labor markets, and the role of trade unions. A core objective of the course is to enhance students’ capacity to evaluate contemporary labor market issues through the lenses of gender equality, social justice, and ethical values, contribute to sustainable development goals, and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to adapt to labor market dynamics shaped by digitalization and technological change.
