The aim of the "Trade Unionism in Turkey and the World" course is to teach the historical development, theoretical background, and practical transformations of trade union movements; to analyze the functioning of trade union structures at national and international levels, the challenges they face, and current trends; and to equip students with the ability to critically evaluate the importance of trade union organization in terms of social justice, equality, and industrial democracy.
This course begins with the origins, historical development, and theoretical approaches to trade unionism; it then details the trade union structures, legislation, and organization processes in Turkey. Additionally, a comparative analysis of trade union movements in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa is conducted. International trade union actors such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) are examined, along with global trade union trends.
