Objectives of the Course

Specialization Field Course. The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the structure of labour markets, the theoretical foundations and practical forms of employment policies, the mechanisms of wage formation, and the social implications of wage policies. The course seeks to enable students to critically analyse the dynamics of employment and wages from a social policy perspective, evaluate contemporary transformations, and develop policy recommendations in line with the principles of social justice, equality, and efficiency.

Course Content

This course explores the fundamental characteristics of labour markets and the theoretical framework of employment policies, offering a comparative analysis of active and passive policy instruments. It critically examines the impact of contemporary phenomena such as migration, digitalisation, green transition, and gender on employment. In the second half of the course, wage theories, minimum wage regulations, income distribution, and collective bargaining are analysed, followed by an evaluation of wage policies implemented at both global and national levels. The Turkish case is discussed through historical and sectoral analysis.
