Objectives of the Course

The main purpose of the course is to explain to students the reasons why countries trade, the benefits of foreign trade, its composition and the theories that explain the formation of relative prices in foreign trade. It is aimed for students to acquire the ability to analyze and interpret international economic theory at a basic level.

Course Content

History of international trade, Classical and Neo-classical foreign trade theory, factor endowment theory, foreign trade earnings and income distribution, new foreign trade theories, economic growth and foreign trade analysis. Additionally, basic knowledge of international economic policy, aims and tools of foreign trade policy, balance of payments, economic integrations.

Learning Outcomes
1.Students will be able to explain basic economic concepts and how they relate to foreign trade and the outside world.
2.Students will be able to interpret the development of foreign trade models and evaluate foreign trade models in the global world.
3.Students will be able to analyze the importance of concepts such as technology and human capital, qualified labor force and their place in foreign trade models. Students will learn to analyze modern foreign trade with technology and human capital oriented applications.
4.Students will have the opportunity to examine the competitive environment in foreign trade at the level of multinational companies, to recognize the scales of competition and to be informed about the applications. Students will be able to test the models with econometric applications.
5.Students will be able to interpret new trends and new approaches in foreign trade in relation to economic development on a country basis.
