Objectives of the Course

To build a foundation of analytical capability for the solution of an engineering problems. In this class, students study general subjects of Statics first then Dynamics to maintain the general view of mechanics subjects and all information was used for design purposes.

Course Content

• Force Systems: Force, Moment, Couple, and Resultants. • Equilibrium: Mechanical System Isolation and Equilibrium Conditions • Structures: Plane Trusses, Method of Joints, and Method of Sections • Distributed Forces: Center of Mass, Centroids of Lines, Areas, and Volumes • Friction: Types of Friction, Dry Friction • Kinematics of Particles: Rectilinear motion, Plane curvilinear motion, Rectangular Coordinates, Normal and Tangential Coordinates, Relative motion (Translating axes), Constrained Motion of Connected Particles. • Kinetics of Particles: Force, Mass, and Acceleration, Newton’s Second Law, Rectilinear Motion, Plane Curvilinear Motion, Work and Energy, Center of Mass, Impulse and Momentum, Impact. • Kinetics of Systems of Particles.
