Bu derste veri iletişimi ve ağlarla ilgili temel kavramlar, ağ mimarileri, veri iletişim donanım ve yazılımı, ağlar (yerel, ulusal, uluslararası), ağ protokolleri (TCP/IP) ve ağ yönetimi ile ilgili konular üzerinde durulmaktadır. Dağıtık bilgi sistemleri , ağların ortaklaşa bilgi hizmetleri geliştirmek için kullanımı ve konsorsiyumlar incelenmekte ve veri iletişim teknolojileriyle ilgili yönetimsel konular (gizlilik, güvenlik, mahremiyet, vd.) gözden geçirilmektedir.
