Objectives of the Course

At the end of this course, sutdents will learn the fundamental concepts and theories of ecenomics and will have the information and skills to analyze the ecenomic problems; they will have a general insight on the economical dimention of the problems in the agricultural sector and an economics background for the next years agricultural economics course.

-Basic concepts of economics -Fundamental economic problems faced by all societies and economic systems -Market concept and types of markets -Price theory -Comsumption theory -Production theory -Costs of production -Market equilibrium under prefect competiton -Market equilibrium under monopoly -Basic indicators in macroeconomics

Problems faced by each economy , production possibilities , opportunity cost and economic systems

Market concept and types of markets
Week 5 - Theoretical
The concept of supply and demand , changes in demand and supply
Week 6 - Theoretical
Market equilibrium and price formation, a change in the equilibrium price , market equilibrium and time

Demand and supply elasticities (Midterm Exam)

Consumer preferences , utility, consumer equilibrium and utility maximization

Production function in the short run and the law of diminishing returns
