Objectives of the Course

This course aims to provide students the fundamental principles of single-phase and three-phase transformer modeling and testing, dc machine characteristics, operation, and speed control, principles of ac machines: modeling, operation and testing of induction motors and speed control, synchronous machine operation and testing.

Course Content

Parameter determination of a single-phase power transformer, connection types of a three-phase transformer, the load characteristics of series, shunt and compound dc generators, the load characteristics of series, shunt and compound dc motors, speed control of dc motors. No-load / locked-rotor tests and determination of the parameters of single and three-phase induction motor, torque-speed characteristics of single and three-phase induction motor, stator voltage and added rotor resistance effects, excitation and load characteristics of salient-pole synchronous machines.
