Objectives of the Course

to create a scientific basis for understanding the functions of life processes of the basic building block of the carbon compounds of living systems and learning the chemical behaviour by examining the basis of the acquisition of functional groups, the methods and reaction mechanisms.

Course Content

IUPAC Nomenclature and Functional groups, Isomers: classification and nomenclature, Alkanes, Alkyl halides, Alkenes, Alkynes, Aromatic compounds, Alcohols, Ethers and Phenols, Aldehydes and ketones, Carboxylic acids and their derivatives, Amines, Natural biological molecules: Carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, vitamins.
