Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to identify the origins of the religions, the emerging of the sense of religion, the phases of its development and the similarities and differences among belief systems in the course of holy writings and to be able to identify the sacred places of various religions.

Course Content

The meaning of "religion" and the basic concepts, holy writings and sacred places since the begining up to now and evaluation of these places with regards to tourism.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to identify the religion and to compare the relations and differences between religion, science and sorcery,
2.To be able to interpret the emerging and development processes of the concept of religion,
3.To be able to compare the similarities and differences among different religious texts,
4.To be able to recall the sacred places in the prehistoric ages and sacred places of various religions,
5.To be able to make comparison between different religions.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Students learn the definition of religion, its characteristics and theories about its sources.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Students get knowledge about belief systems in the prehistoric ages.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Students learn old religions of Mesopotamia.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Students learn old religion of Egypt.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Students learn old Religions of Anatolia.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Students learn religions of ancient Greek and Romans.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Students learn about ancient Iranian religions (Zoroastrianism and Manichaeism).
Week 8 - Theoretical
Students learn religions of Old Turks.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Students learn about the religions of India, Hinduism and Jainism.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Students learn about the religions of India, Buddhism and Sikhism.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Students learn about Taoism and Confucianism, the Chinese religions, and Shintoism, the national religion of Japan.
Week 12 - Theoretical
Students get knowledge about Judaism.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Students get knowledge about Christianity
Week 14 - Theoretical
Students get knowledge about Islam.
