Objectives of the Course

In this course, it is aimed at teaching European art and architecture from Migration Period to the end of 20th century. The course will make it possible for students to learn important historical styles. In addition to this, it will also help to recognize historical changes in western art and culture

Course Content

This course comprises the period from Early Medieval to the begining of Renaissance. Influences of barbarian art on western art and contribution of barbarian art to western art are laid emphasis on and all the art periods within this process are handled. Main subjects of the course are origins of western civilization, Medieval European Christianity art and architecture, Romanesque and Gothic architecture, sculpture and book picture.

Learning Outcomes
1.He /she comprehends Art of Medieval Europe and cultural, social, economic and geographical conditions.
2.He/ she recognizes various art works and artists of Medieval Art.
3.He/ she follows new publications about Art of Medieval Europe by doing internet and library surveys; conveys the information obtained in written and oral forms.
4.He/ she could be able to interpret and evaluate works of art by using the information he/ she obtained about Art of Medieval Europe and bring solutions to research and evidence
5.He/ she gets information about Renaissance Period: Humanism, Naturalism and the rebirth of antiken.
6.He/ she gets information about baroque and rococa art and architecture.
