Objectives of the Course

The objective of the course is to introduce the samples of traditional handicrafts such as carpet weaving and flat weaving, fabric, tiles and ceramic, miniature, hand carving, ornamentation, calligraphy, wood, stone, metal, glass, marbling that were produced in the Seljuk and Ottoman periods in historical process with regards to the characteristics of material, technique, ornamentation, composition, place of production, constructors, master builder and styles in company with visual materials.

Course Content

Such samples of traditional handicrafts as carpet weaving and flat weaving, fabric, tiles and ceramic, miniature, hand carved, ornamentation, calligraphy, wooden, stone, metal, glass, marbling that were produced in the Seljuk and Ottoman periods will be introduced with regards to characteristics of material, technique, ornamentation, composition, place of production, constructors, master builder and styles in company with visual materials.

1.Obtains information about materiel cognisance, technic and style of Byzantian handicrafts.
2.Obtains information about materials cognisance, technic and style of Seljuq handicrafts
3.Obtains information about materials cognisance, technic and style of Ottoman handicrafts
4.Recognizes Anatolian handicraft samples in museum collections.
5.Has information about modern applications of Anatolian handicrafts.
6.Evaluates the handicrafts by taking all political, social, religious, economic and artistic dimensions of the period into consideration.
7.Recognizes the function of sociocultural structure of the period in the development of handicrafts.

Giving general information about aim and content of the lesson of Anatolian Handicrafts; introduction about the types of Anatolian handicrafts containing the periods of Seljuk, Beyliks and Ottoman.

Telling Seljuk and Ottoman-period carpet weaving and flat weaving (rug, zili, light rug, sumac etc.) ground clothes art in company with visual materials.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Telling Seljuk and Ottoman-period carpet weaving and flat weaving (rug, zili, light rug, sumac etc.) ground clothes art in company with visual materials.
Week 4 - Theoretical
