Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to explain macroeconomic events within the framework of theoretical macroeconomic approaches in an analytical integrity with examples taken from practice and statistical data, to gain the ability to make economic analysis and synthesis.

Course Content

Introduction, National income accounts, Income and expenditure, Money, interest and income, Monetary and fiscal policies, Behavioural foundations: Consumption and saving, Investment expenditure, Money demand, Central bank, money and credit Financial Markets and Asset Prices.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the concepts of macroeconomics and the relationships between these concepts.
2.Explains the relationships between macroeconomic variables such as total domestic income, unemployment, recession and expansion, budget deficit, interest rate, export and import, trade deficit, economic fluctuation.
3.Establishes macroeconomic models and analyses the effects of macroeconomic policies on macroeconomic variables using these models.
4.Explain the short and long term effects of monetary and fiscal policies on macroeconomic variables.
5.Evaluates the results of monetary and fiscal policies and makes forecasts.
6.Identifies inflation and unemployment problems and offers possible solutions.
7.Be able to model consumption and investment to analyse their effects on the economy.
8.Be able to interpret the effects of economic shocks on inflation and output using the aggregate demand and aggregate supply model of macroeconomics.
