This course aims to provide students with knowledge and experience in short film storytelling. In this regard, it seeks to establish a theoretical framework for short film narratives and to put this knowledge into practice through the short films they will watch and the short film scripts they will write throughout the semester.
In the course, a comprehensive definition of the short film is provided, and the similarities and differences between short film narratives and feature-length film narratives are analyzed. The “classical narrative structure” of feature films will be introduced through Syd Field’s Paradigm, followed by the use of Richard Raskin’s seven parameters to distinguish short film narratives from those of feature-length films.
