Objectives of the Course

To provide candidate teachers with the basic knowledge necessary for the education of the individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders and to gain the basic competencies necessary for the next education and professional life.

Course Content

Special education, the basic principles of special education, the reasons for difficulties, the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, the historical approach to disability, mentally handicapped, hearing impaired, visually impaired, physically handicapped, language and communication disorders, chronic disease, specific learning difficulty, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, autism and the characteristics and education of gifted children, responses observed in the families of children who need special education, special education in our country, institutions and organizations established for this purpose.
