Objectives of the Course

Students will have knowledge about behavior characteristics of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, problem behaviors they exhibit and ways of coping with problem behaviors.

Course Content

1. Behavior management approaches a) Applied behavior analysis b) Cognitive behavioral approach 2. Autism Spectrum Disorder and Behavior a) Behavior characteristics and functions b) Behavior problems specific to autism spectrum disorder c)High frequency behavior problems: not cooperating, tantrums, repetitive behaviors, self-harm d) Low frequency behavior problems: sleep disorders, refusal to eat and others e) Coping with behavioral problems: premise-based strategies; outcome based strategies.
