Enabling prospective teachers to construct the number concept, which is the most basic concept of mathematics, number systems, number sets, transformations between representations of numbers, to increase the knowledge and skills for teaching these topics, to have an idea about students' knowledge for these issues, and constructing relationship of these subjects with daily life and other courses.
Setting up a number system, natural numbers, operations in natural numbers, different based numbers, integers, multiples and factors, divisibility rules, LCM and GCD concepts and applications; ratio and proportion concepts and applications; real numbers, exponential and rooted quantities, fractions, decimal representations, percentages; rational and irrational numbers; sets and teaching basic concepts of sets (organizing the course content - using appropriate instructional materials and strategies, etc.); students' knowledge for these issues (understanding and interpreting students' thinking for the concepts, knowing student difficulties, mistakes, misconceptions and their reasons); the relationship of these subjects with daily life and other courses.
| Prof. Ersen YAZICI |
| 1. | Students will notice different number systems used in mathematics and know setup of these number systems |
| 2. | Students will know the properties and usage areas of operations with different number systems. |
| 3. | Students will know multiples and factors, divisibility rules, LCM and GCD concepts and make different applications related to these concepts. |
| 4. | Students will understand different representations of numbers and make transformations between these representations. |
| 5. | Students will understand the rational and irrational numbers, and difference between the properties of these sets of numbers. |
| 6. | Students will know the basic concepts of sets and make applications related to these concepts. |
| 7. | Students will organize course content related to the teaching of basic concepts about numbers and develop appropriate teaching materials. |
| 8. | Students will establish the relationship of the basic concepts of numbers with daily life and other courses. |
| 9. | Students will interpret and comment on the basic concepts of numbers; know the misconceptions and their reasons. |
