Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to develop the concepts and ideas related to statistics and probability topics that they will need at the basic level and to develop the skills of statistical thinking and reasoning.

Course Content

Basic concepts, frequency distributions, histograms and frequency polygons, graphical representation of categorical data and applications. Parametric and nonparametric central tendency measurements and applications. Parametric and nonparametric distribution measurements and applications. Skewness and kurtosis. Basic concepts in probability theory, addition and multiplication rule, bayes theorem, probability distribution table, expected value and applications. Basic concepts of discrete probability distributions, Binomial, Poisson and hypergeometric distributions and applied studies.

1.Students will prepare activities for effective learning by considering the foundations and learning theories related to probability and statistics.
2.Students will analyze how students perceive the concepts related to probability and statistics.
3.Students will appreciate contributions of instruments, technology and material that are used probability and statistics teaching.
4.Students will recognise the importance of collaborative work.
5.Students will design and apply a lesson plan for a subject included in 5-8.grade mathematics curriculum.
6.Students will evaluate their experiences of micro teaching practice.
