Objectives of the Course

To help prospective mathematics teachers acquire a deep understanding of basic concepts and structures of geometry and measurement, to help them see the relationships between these structures by using various materials; determine misconceptions about geometry and measurement and improve their skills to relate them with daily life.

Course Content

Van Hiele thinking levels, basic geometric concepts, geometric structures, geometric solids, congruence and similarity, transformational geometry, projection, patterns and adornments, fractals, Pythagoras theorem, teaching the nature of measurement, time, length, area, volume and angle measuring (regulation of course content-using suitable teaching materials and structures, etc..); student information about these topics (understanding and interprating student thinking related to contents; knowing student difficulties, errors, misconceptions and the reasons); the relationship of these topics with daily life and other courses.
